This prayer is rooted in James 1:5 — a Scripture promise that has carried Christian women through every season since it was first written.

A Prayer for Wisdom

Father, I need wisdom. Not more information — discernment. I need to know what to do, and I genuinely do not know.

Give me a mind that thinks clearly through the fog of emotion. Help me see what You see — the long view, the option that honors You.

I will wait for Your wisdom rather than rushing. And when You show me the way — give me the courage to walk in it.

Amen.

What Does the Bible Say About Wisdom?

Wisdom in the Bible is not primarily intellectual — it is relational. Proverbs 9:10 says "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." James 1:5 makes a guarantee: ask God for wisdom and He will give it.

How to Walk Through Wisdom With God

Reading these scriptures is the first step. Praying through them is the second. But God invites us to live them — and that takes practice. Here is how to begin:

  1. Ask specifically — not generally Vague prayers get vague answers. Specific asks get specific wisdom.
  2. Pause before deciding Most unwise decisions are made too quickly. Give yourself permission to not know yet.
  3. Search Scriptures for relevant principles What principles in Scripture apply to this decision?
  4. Seek counsel from wise people Find 1-2 people who love God more than they love making you feel good.

You Don't Have to Carry This Alone
