A Prayer for Anxiety

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

— Philippians 4:6-7

A Prayer for Anxiety

Father, I come before You with a heart full of anxiety. I know You see every worry I carry — the fears I can name and the dread that has no words. You tell me to cast all my anxiety on You because You care for me, and so I do that right now. I release every anxious thought into Your hands.

Lord, I choose to believe what Your Word says — that You are working all things together for my good, that tomorrow is already in Your hands, and that the peace You offer transcends my understanding. I ask You to guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Let Your peace be the anchor I return to every time fear rises.

I declare today that anxiety does not have authority over my life. You have not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. I receive Your peace right now.

Amen.

What Does the Bible Say?

God addresses anxiety directly throughout Scripture. In Matthew 6, Jesus uses the word "anxious" as He teaches about worry. Philippians 4:6 gives a specific prescription: prayer, petition, and thanksgiving as the path to supernatural peace. 1 Peter 5:7 frames it as an act of trust.

Bible Verses

1
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
— 1 Peter 5:7
What this means: God's invitation is not just for big worries — it's for all of them. Every anxious thought is welcome in His hands because He genuinely cares for you personally.
2
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
— Isaiah 41:10
What this means: God does not promise to remove the situation — He promises His presence in it. His righteous hand is holding you right now.
3
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
— Matthew 6:34
What this means: Anxiety lives in the future. Jesus reminds you that today has enough grace for today — and tomorrow's grace arrives with tomorrow.
4
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
— Psalm 94:19
What this means: This psalm was written from inside anxiety — not after it passed. God meets us in the middle of it.
