A Prayer for Anxiety

Find peace in God's Word with Bible verses for anxiety. Includes prayers, 4 key scriptures, and practical steps for Christian women.

Before you read this prayer, take a deep breath. God already sees the weight you are carrying. He is not asking you to clean yourself up before you come to Him — He is inviting you to come as you are.

This prayer is rooted in Philippians 4:6-7 — a Scripture promise that has carried Christian women through every season since it was first written.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

— Philippians 4:6-7

A Prayer for Anxiety

Father, I come before You with a heart full of anxiety. I know You see every worry I carry — the fears I can name and the dread that has no words. You tell me to cast all my anxiety on You because You care for me, and so I do that right now. I release every anxious thought into Your hands.

Lord, I choose to believe what Your Word says — that You are working all things together for my good, that tomorrow is already in Your hands, and that the peace You offer transcends my understanding. I ask You to guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Let Your peace be the anchor I return to every time fear rises.

I declare today that anxiety does not have authority over my life. You have not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. I receive Your peace right now.

Amen.

What Does the Bible Say About Anxiety?

God addresses anxiety directly throughout Scripture. In Matthew 6, Jesus uses the word "anxious" as He teaches about worry. Philippians 4:6 gives a specific prescription: prayer, petition, and thanksgiving as the path to supernatural peace. 1 Peter 5:7 frames it as an act of trust.

4 Bible Verses to Pray When You Need Anxiety

1
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7

What this means for you: God's invitation is not just for big worries — it's for all of them. Every anxious thought is welcome in His hands because He genuinely cares for you personally.

2
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
— Isaiah 41:10

What this means for you: God does not promise to remove the situation — He promises His presence in it. His righteous hand is holding you right now.

3
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
— Matthew 6:34

What this means for you: Anxiety lives in the future. Jesus reminds you that today has enough grace for today — and tomorrow's grace arrives with tomorrow.

4
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”
— Psalm 94:19

What this means for you: This psalm was written from inside anxiety — not after it passed. God meets us in the middle of it.

How to Walk Through Anxiety With God

Reading these scriptures is the first step. Praying through them is the second. But God invites us to live them — and that takes practice. Here is how to begin:

  1. Name the anxiety out loud Before you check your phone, name the specific thing you're anxious about. Naming it begins the process of surrender.
  2. Pray the Philippians 4:6 formula Prayer + Petition + Thanksgiving = Peace. Bring the specific request, and add thanksgiving before you see the answer.
  3. Speak a verse over the thought When an anxious thought surfaces, replace it with a verse from this list. Say it aloud. Anxiety loses its grip when your mouth is full of truth.
  4. Start your day with scripture before your phone The first thought of the day sets the tone. One Bible verse in the first 5 minutes of your morning is the most powerful anxiety-prevention tool.

You Don't Have to Carry This Alone
