A Prayer for Fear

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

A Prayer for Fear

Father, I am afraid. You know this fear — every layer of it, every what-if. And You are not startled by it.

Your Word says You have not given me a spirit of fear. I renounce it and receive the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Let Your perfect love cast out this fear.

I will not let fear make decisions for my life. I choose to walk forward by faith — not because the fear is gone, but because You are with me.

Amen.

What Does the Bible Say?

God's response to human fear throughout Scripture is consistent: He does not say "nothing bad will happen." He says "I am with you." The antidote to fear is not the removal of threat but the assurance of God's presence within it.

Bible Verses

1
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed.
— Isaiah 41:10
What this means: God gives four promises in one verse. Fear cannot stand against that many guarantees.
2
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil.
— Psalm 23:4
What this means: The valley does not disappear. You walk THROUGH it. But the shepherd walks with you.
3
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.
— 1 John 4:18
What this means: The love that drives out your fear is not your love for God — it is His love for you.
4
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; the Lord your God will be with you.
— Joshua 1:9
What this means: God gave Joshua not a feeling of courage but a command — with a promise of presence.
